Your Best Moment as a Parent
There is a gross misconception that when your child is born that you will hear the sounds of angels beating their wings, or trumpets going off in the distance. Most women will tell you, that it is such a load of horse manure. Now some women will tell you that it was a miraculous mone for them, but for the majority it is a blessed relief when it's all over. My experience tells me that it was such a relief when it was all over, and I just wanted to go to sleep. The first thing I did was ask if I have a boy or girl (I am one of the few people who waited to find out the sex of my child). We had a girl. Then I just sank back in bed and watched bleary eyed while the midwife and my husband did all the work. I have never had that hearts and flowers moment as so inaccurately portrayed in sitcoms and brain dead TV, Now it's not that I didn't love her from day one, I did, so don't misunderstand my point (and there is one coming honestly...). My point is, that I did get that love back in bucket loads. One morning I was carrying my daughter downstairs a few months after she was born, and she actually put her hand up to my face and (almost) put her arm around my neck. That was my moment. I thought now my life is complete, and I was truly happy. No wings, no trumpets, no hearts, no flowers. Why? Because there was no need!!! |
