Our Authentic Selves
When you think back on the things you did or said have you always been yourself? I'm not sure I always have. I'm sure I have adapted to specific situations. My sister however, is herself, and if people don't like it she isn't very bothered. Now my sister was particularly mad when we were kids, and even as an adult she hasn't changed, which is a great way to be I think. She also just happens to have an amazing singing voice, and sang at our grandfathers funeral. As I watched her singing and playing the guitar on the alter I was proud of her for singing at a sad moment for all of us. As she finished her song walked along the aisle to go back to her seat, my cousins and I started to laugh, and laugh loudly. We hadn't noticed until then. While on the alter, we could only see her from the knees up, and she was wearing a perfectly lovely black dress, with a black cardigan over it. Her hair was tied back and she looked like a mourner. From the knees down she was wearing odd socks, not only were they odd, but they were multi coloured knee length socks, and she was wearing them with purple dock martin boots. We couldn't help laughing, and on reflection it makes me wonder just how many times I should have been me or as I have heard it called "My Authentic Self", and not a dumbed down version!! |
